Remember Basic Electrical Safety Rules:
- Always fly kites in an open area- NEVER near power lines
- Never climb trees near power lines
- Keep fingers and other objects away from electrical outlets
- Stay far away from downed power lines
- Keep ladders and TV antennas away from power lines
- Stay away from electrical equipment such as substations, meters, and transformers
- Water & electrical when you are wet
- Stay away from the work area and the truck where linemen are working
- Never pull a plug out by its cord
- Obey all safety signs

CONTEST RULES
- Open to 3rd or 4th grade students attending school within HEA’s service area (Student’s parents or guardian must be an active HEA member)
- Poster must carry an electrical safety message
- Poster must be created and drawn by the student (no stenciled letter, patterns, or computer images) Spelling and neatness are important
- Poster size not to exceed 8 1/2″ x 11″ and created on heavy paper or poster board- crayons, paint, or markers work well, but avoid using pencil as it doesn’t copy well
- Entries must be submitted to your local HEA office by April 1, 2024. Awards will be presented at the HEA Annual Meeting held on May 2, 2024 at the Homer High School
- The student’s name, address, school, grade, teacher and school phone number MUST be clearly printed on the pack of the poster
- All posters become the property of HEA and may be used in advertisements, calendars and other HEA publications
- Only posters complying will all the contest rules will be qualified for judging
CONTEST AWARDS
- All poster contest participants will receive a Certificate of Participation
- All contest winners will have their photos taken for use in the member newsletter, website, ect.
- Best Electrical Safety Message will receive a $100.00 VISA Gift Card, plaque, and framed poster
- Most Creative and Most Humorous winner will each receive a $50.00 VISA Gift Card and framed poster
- All winning posters will be reproduced for display in the local HEA offices
- Contest winners will be asked to attend HEA’s Annual Meeting on May 2, 2024 at Homer High School

Youth Basketball Skills and Drills Clinics, 3rd/4th Grade Saturdays 10-11am, 5th/6th Grade Saturdays 11am-12:30pm. These are free drop-in clinics for any 3rd-6th Graders who love basketball and want to improve their skills. For more information, contact Nikiski Community Recreation Center at 907-776-8800.
Come join us for our Easter Eggstravaganza Event. Saturday March 23rd from 10am-4pm at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center. There will be a bunny petting zoo, pictures with the Easter Bunny, a Spring Craft Fair, an Easter Egg Hunt for children 6 years old and younger, arts/crafts. Plenty of fun!
Spring Break Camp 2024 at NPRSA is a fun and exciting camp for kids from Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Kids will enjoy baking, games in the gym, fun science experiments, arts & crafts, and swimming. This 3-day camp runs March 12th-14th from 10am-2pm and is only $10 per day. Mini & Me “Make & Take Treats” is a fun, messy, and interactive program that aims to strengthen the bond between parent and child. This program includes singing and dancing to music, story time, and making delicious treats. We are super excited for you to join our Mini & Me class while we make fruit kabobs and sandwiches, No Bake cookies, and Chocolate Chip muffins. Come join us Wednesdays from 2-3pm, March 6th, 20th, & 27th. Space is limited so pre-registration is required.
The fifteenth annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon on Q 100 the point is coming April 4th and 5th and we need your help! We’re looking for individuals and groups to join us in the fight to beat childhood cancer, by volunteering a couple hours of your time in our phone bank.
