The opening game in a three-day swing for the Soldotna hockey team through Anchorage’s Cook Inlet Conference ended 6-2 Chugiak at the MacDonald Arena.
SoHi 2 – Chugiak 6
SoHi and Chugiak battled in a defensive contest which generated only 42 shots on goal combined for the two teams- Chugiak 28 shots and SoHi 16 shots.
Chugiak opened the scoring with two first-period goals and a 2-0 lead. SoHi’s Galen Brantley III scored on a power-play goal with :52 seconds remaining in the first period. Wyatt Medcoff tied the game early in the second period; however, the Mustangs recorded three-straight goals for a 5-2 lead into the final period. Chugiak scored to open the third and the two teams skated even for the final 14:30 of the game. In goal for the Stars Josh Tree recorded 22 saves.
The Stars continue play on Friday with a 4:00 p.m. game against CIC leading West Anchorage at the Ben Boeke Arena. On Saturday, SoHi faces-off against South (#2 in the CIC) in a 3:45 p.m. game at Ben Boeke.
