Open enrollment runs from November 1 through December 15 for coverage starting January 1, 2020. During this window, current customers can switch their health insurance plan for next year, while new customers can buy a policy from scratch.
Kevin Counihan, Marketplace CEO of Healthcare.gov: “This is open for people who are brand new to coverage and it’s open for people who already have coverage so they have a chance to shop around.”
Alaskans must purchase insurance during open enrollment window, unless they experience a qualifying event like changing jobs, losing umbrella coverage from a parent’s policy because they’ve turning 26, getting married or having a baby.
Monthly premiums in the individual market will cost an average of $770 in 2020 compared to an average of $1,043 in 2019, the state announced in August.
