The Klimpke Family will not be flipping the switch on their annual Christmas Lights Display in Nikiski for the 2019 holiday season.
According to a social media post from Brenda Klimpke: “The Klimpke Christmas Light Display will not be taking place this year due to a family medical situation that has continued throughout the year.”
John and Brenda Klimpke started the lights display in Nikiski off of Blueberry Avenue 19 years ago. John: “It started off with just one little snowman, and it seemed like every year it just grew and grew. Every year it just keeps getting bigger, bigger and better.”
Visitors from all over the Kenai Peninsula, and even some from Anchorage have flocked to see Klimpke’s lights over the years. Christmas decorations fill their yard and according to John he uses miles and miles of extension cords: “Miles and miles is right. We quit counting, but one year my daughter counted 23,000 lights, but we double that now.”
Brenda: “Our decision not to have the light display was a hard one to make, We hope that by taking a year off, John will get stronger and we will be able to resume it next year. We hope all of our family, friends and community have a very Blessed Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas.”
