Conference baseball and conference softball features multiple games with seven baseball games and four softball games on the schedule for the final days of April and first days of May.
SoHi Baseball 11 – Kenai 1
The Soldotna baseball team opened a four-game week of baseball contests with an 11-1 Southcentral Conference victory over Kenai.
David Michael lead the Stars offense going 3 for 3 with three runs and 2 RBI; Jacob Boze added a two-run home run in SoHi’s five-run, second inning. With four games in five days on the schedule for the Stars, pitch counts and innings pitched come into play for the SoHi hurlers. The Stars split the pitching duties between four pitchers who combined to hold Kenai to a lone, first inning run. The game was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run rule.
The Kardinals host Wasilla on Friday and Colony on Saturday at the Kenai little league fields. SoHi baseball features three opponents on three days with the Stars playing Wasilla on Thursday, Colony on Friday and Grace on Saturday; all games at the Soldotna little league fields.
SoHi Softball 4 – Homer 13
The Homer Mariner girls plated eight runs in the second inning and held SoHi to four runs in a 13-4 Mariner victory in Northern Lights Conference softball.
SoHi opened a 3-0 lead through the first two innings; however, the offense sputtered and SoHi managed only a single run for the remainder of the game. An eight-run, third inning for the Mariners, included a grand slam home run for Grace Godfrey. SoHi will face Houston on Saturday with games scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. The Kenai Kardinal softball team hosts Houston on Friday at 4 & 6 p.m. at the Kenai softball fields.
