Stars Send Statement Soundly Sprinting Past South: Bulldogs & Kardinals Fall In Week Three Football Action

Home games for the Stars and the Kardinals became road contests and a home game for Nikiski changed opponents; besides that, week three of the high school football season went-off without a hitch.

 

SoHi 53 – South Anchorage 20

The Soldotna Stars improved to 2-0 on the regular season and 2-0 against Division I opponents and 2-0 against teams ranked #1 in the football poll for Division I the week they faced SoHi.

 

The Stars running game and defense were on display on Saturday at South Anchorage in a 53-20 SoHi victory over the Wolverines.  SoHi lead 20-6 early and 32-20 at the helf before holding South scoreless in the second half and adding 33 points to the Stars offensive total.

 

Game Highlights:

Wyatt Medcoff: 2 rushing touchdowns, 1 receiving touchdown, one kick return for a touchdown, 2 interceptions

Hudson Metcalf: 2 interceptions-one returned for touchdown

Aaron Faletoi: 1 rushing touchdown and 1 fumble recovery

 

Soldotna travels to San Diego County to play Christian High School in El Cajon, California on Friday, September 6th at 6 p.m. Alaska Time.

Kenai 18 – Juneau 59

The Juneau Huskies (Huskies is the name for the co-op Juneau-Thunder Mountain football program playing in Division I, a name taken from the former 1950’s Douglas High School.) overpowered Kenai 59-18 in Juneau on Saturday after the Kardinals worked-out a road-trip to Southeast to replace a cancelled home contest with Lathrop.

 

Kenai’s three touchdowns were shared by Tucker Vann, first half 54 -yard rushing score; and touchdowns for Braedon Pitsch and Zach Burnett in the second half.

 

Kenai has Division II opponent North Pole on the schedule for week four with a trip North and a Saturday 1 .p.m. game against the Patriots.

 

Nikiski 18 – Homer 50

Nikiski lead 12-0 early; however. the Bulldogs offense staled and Homer’s quarterback Anthony Kalugin took control as the Mariners downed Nikiski 50-18 in a non-conference Division III contest on Friday night.

 

Nikiski touchdowns were recorded by Koleman McCaughey on a 13-yard run; Sam Berry with a 60-yard interception return; and Sam Berry on a 45-yard run.  Homer’s Andrew Kalugin rushed for three touchdowns and threw for two touchdowns.

 

Next up for the Bulldogs will be a week four pairing against Barrow on Saturday, September 7th at Nikiski High School.
