Stars & Kards Fall In Friday Round At Stars & Stripes Hockey

The 2019 Alaska Army National Guard Stars & Stripes Showdown Hockey Tournament, featuring three days of round-robin hockey at the Palmer MTA Events Center, continued on Friday with the Kenai Kardinals and Soldotna Stars in second-round action.

 

Teams include: Kenai, SoHi, Colony, Wasilla, West Valley and North Pole, Palmer and Dimond.

 

North Pole 6 – Kenai 5

Gavin Langham scored a pair of goals for the Kardinals, Nate Beiser scored in the second and Landen Cialek and Aiden Milburn added late, third period goals in a 6-5 loss for Kenai against North Pole on Friday.

Kenai lead 1-0 after one period; however, North Pole scored four goals in the second period.  Kenai added two goals in the second to trail 4-3.

The Patriots scored two, third period goals for a 6-3 advantage.  Kenai added Landen Cialek and Aiden Milburn to close to 6-5.  Thomas Baker recorded 21 saves on 27 shots in the loss.

 

Wasilla 4 – SoHi 2

The Stars rallied from a slow start with two late goals to close-out a 4-2 loss to the Wasilla Warriors.  SoHi trailed 1-0 after one period and allowed three Warrior goals in the second to fall behind 4-0.

Wyatt Medcoff and Galen Brantley III scored for the Stars in the third period.  SoHi was out-shot 19-6 in the first two periods; then out-shot Wasilla 10-6 in the third.  Corbin Wirz recorded 21 saves for the Stars.

 

Saturday Game Schedule, November 9

…11 a.m.  SoHi vs Colony

…3:00 p.m.  KCHS vs West Valley
