In Kenai at the Park Strip
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has come to the Greater Kenai/Soldotna area! The Imagination Library is a wonderful reading program that provides one book a month to children under the age of 5 years old at no cost to the family. The Imagination Library is supported by grants and the local community. Your local Imagination Library invites you to come and find out more about the Imagination Library and learn how you can be involved in making the difference in the life of a local child. A sign up/sponsor a child event will be held Saturday July 4th during and after the 4th of July Parade in Kenai. Hope to see you there!

Kenai 4th of July Celebration

Join us in Kenai this year for the 4th of July! Our theme is "The 49th Turns 50" in honor of our states 50th statehood celebration. Parade begins at 11:00a.m., vendor booths and entertainment on the park strip until 4:00p.m. *The parade will head South on Willow Street, turn West on the Kenai Spur Highway and will end at Main Street. *The Kenai Chamber of Commerce is seeking sponsors, vendor booths applicants, parade entries and volunteers. Call as soon as possible to reserve your spot in this year's festivities!

Capture This! Digital Photography Workshop

Local photographer Melody Gleichman will present “Capture This!” a workshop on Digital Photography Basics as a part of the summer interpretive program at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. This workshop will provide some simple tips to help you capture the great moments of your vacation. The workshop will start with a round table discussion on composition and then the workshop will take a “field trip” through Old Town Kenai to apply new knowledge, firsthand. Entrance is included in the price of admission to the museum, which is $5.00 for adults and free for children.

Harvesting and Processing Alaska's Bounty

Colleen Sonnevil of the Cooperative Extension Service will be teaching “Harvesting and Processing Alaska’s Bounty”. Come learn how to harvest and process seasonal foods that are found on the Peninsula. Classes will be Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm starting July 9 and continuing for six weeks in the Fireweed Diner at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. Funny River Quilters 6th Annual Golf Tournament

This is our one fund raiser for the year and the money helps us to buy thread, batting, material, etc. to continue making quilts for the community. These quilts are donated to families in need, the oncology department, the peiatric unit and the nursery at Central Peninsula General Hospital, to Alzheimer patients, Forget-Me-Not adult day care center, Heritage Place and Lee Shore Center. In 2008 we made and donated 150+ Quilts.
