In Peninsula Conference soccer on Monday on KCHS’s Ed Hollier Field, the Kenai Kardinals defended home field with a 4-2 victory for the Kardinal boys over the Soldotna Stars and a 1-1 tie over the SoHi girls.
Kenai Girls 1 – SoHi 1
Following a scoreless first half with SoHi holding the wind advantage, the Stars finally scored seven minutes into the second half for a 1-0 lead over the Kenai girls. Rhys Cannava scored for SoHi off a Ryann Cannava corner kick. The Kardinal girls answered on a Julia Hansen goal to tie the game at 1-1. Kenai goalie Kailey Hamilton and SoHi goalie Katie Delker maintained the tie score through the remainder of the contest. Final Score: Kenai 1, SoHi 1
Kenai Boys 4 – SoHi 2
A three-goal, hat trick by Kenai’s Damien Redder countered a two-goal effort by SoHi’s Josh Heiber as the Kenai boys recorded a Peninsula Conference soccer victory over SoHi 4-2 on Ed Hollier Field at KCHS. The Kardinal defense held SoHi scoreless through the first half; Kenai, on a Redder goal, held a 1-0 lead at the half. Redder opened the second half scoring for a 2-0 Kenai lead. The Stars, with back-to-back goals by Josh Heiber, tied the games at two-apiece. Redder responded with his third goal of the game which turned-out to be the game-winning goal. A final penalty-kick goal for Kenai’s Travis McKinley in the contest’s final seconds sealed the victory for Kenai. Final Score: Kenai 4, SoHi 2.
